my challenge

it's been no secret (especially to my co-workers) that my attitude between 7-3:30 monday thru friday (longer with commuting or staying late) has been utterly crap lately. I'm not rude to the clients that I work with or the people on the phones, but I've been quite free with my tragic sighs whenever the phone rings, rolling of the eyes at "stupid questions" and the martyred behavior of one who has too much to do and is given even more.

Yeah, I've been kind of a jerk lately, not so much the disciple of Christ that I'd like to be, especially if I wanted my trip to New Orleans to be a light to others. There are quite a few Christians here, and we all have our moments/days/weeks/months of bad attitudes, I just want to set myself apart, even from that.

So I've decided to challenge myself. Tomorrow I am going to strive to be positive all day long. That means no grunts of disgust before answering the phone. No telling stories designed to make someone look stupid, no cries of despair as my workload seems to incease exponentially in direct proportion to however hard I'm trying to work on it.

Secondary to this challenge would be not resorting to food of any kind, especially sweets, to calm my mood and ease my stress level. There's no point in addressing or eliminating one bad behavior by encouraging another....

yeah, not too excited about this one. I've been trying to watch myself this afternoon just to see how bad it really is...and it's bad. Am I really this unpleasant to be around at work?

----------------

and -I promise I'm working on my stories from New Orleans, I've already written down 14+ pages in my journal...and I'm on Monday...this is a big job!!

Its been really hard to be content at work (or with anything for that matter) since I got back from the trip. Being obedient to God when you absolutely don't feel like it is one of the most difficult things in the world.

I'm doing surprisingly well! I've let a groan or two slip, but it's been good. I think God's grace has been with me, totally.
Let's see if I can work this out for tomorrow too...I'd say the rest of the week, but it is only Tuesday, afterall! =)

And Jon, you're entirely right, I sometimes smile to think of the Bible verse "obedience is better than sacrifice" (it's in Samuel or Kings and then in Psalms too, I believe) What about when obedience IS sacrifice? Just remember how much you're glorifying God in your obedience!!

I'm praying for you! You may not be able to do it, but the spirit inside you can. 1 John 4:4

You gotta be careful what you post...you go and write things like this and it convicts your readers...then it's all they can think about when they let out a groan before picking up the phone...

:)

Thanks, friend.
