i'm so tired of listening to the radio, there's nothing on. I've been listening to MPR more lately because it's more varied and interesting that the typical radio stations with their 12 song playlists...ugh.
Now internet radio, that's got some potential. There are some that are basically just the same as a regular radio station: they've got a select genre, they have thousands upon thousands of songs to choose from, but invariably, you still end up hearing the same song 3 times in 2 hours. It's just likely not going to be the same song you hear on the radio, depending on the genre and station that you've chosen. I've listened to Accuradio, Yahoo radio, VH1 radio, all with varied results. I like Accuradio because they're very genre specific, and if you hit it on a good day, you get a LOT of different artists and get exposed to lots of music you don't typically hear other places. They and VH1 radio have the least annoying commercials. VH1 radio is pretty much only music from popular artists. Pretty good selection, not too many repeats, but nothing you haven't heard before. Yahoo is good, you can rate musicians and genres, they'll give you new songs and artists based on those ratings, but for the free stations, they really lay it on thick with the commercials (most of them very annoying) and the opportunities to subscribe to their pay service for so much better quality and no ads. Tempting, but no.
The last couple days I've been listening to Pandora. Kim told me about it, and it's pretty cool. You can make a "station" based on a band you like, and then it picks other music for you. Not really based on genre, but more based on the music itself "laidback female vocals" "heavy stress on production quality" so you tend to get a lot of the same sounding music, but in a different way than along just the typical genre lines. And they've got lots of different bands - I'm back to actually hearing groups that I've never heard of before, and if you don't like a song, they'll never play it again. It's interesting, I like it, I think I'll keep listening. It's free, and their ads are silent and in the corner, so I've never been bothered by one yet. Wow, that's rough.

I used to listen to radioio when I worked at the law office. They have a bunch of genres to choose from, but the one I listened to most was comparable to The Current. Most always music and bands I'd never heard of. But I don't know much about music.
Kim's favorite Pandora Stations:
Harry Connick Jr (duh), Smithereens , Sailing (the song by Chris DeBurgh), Deee-lite,
Chris Isaak, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Underworld, Nickle Creek, Rascal Flatts, and Jerry Douglas. Pandora rocks!
Underworld the movie? Or is that a new country band I haven't heard of yet...
Very Funny- you would like them...they are not country...plunk it in sometime. Depending on what they choose for the first song yo ucould be stuck hearing the song Blue- and you thought that Country was bad!
