i went to celebrate recovery last night for the first time in ages, and it was exactly what i needed. The worship was refreshing, the message from Mark Davis was very timely and exceedingly relevant to me. It included principle 5, "Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects" and the talk was on victory. Usually they have acrostics that come across a tad bit cheesy, but I ignored that part because the message behind it was great.
Basically it was a reminder that we as humans tend to be self-sufficent and think that we need to change ourselves, we need to work to get better, to get things accomplished. This especially holds true a lot of times in our spiritual lives or walks with God. We need to be humble and figure out that we can't make those changes stick, it has to be God. He'll be the one working in us to make lasting changes, otherwise, we're never going to get very far on our own.
It all worked into things that had been going on this week, and led me to feel very encouraged that the steps I've been taking are the right ones, and that I need to remember that I need God to be able to continue my forward progress, and be aware of when I try to do things on my own.
