the e-mail experiment

i just got a new e-mail account the other day. It's not like I needed it, but Maren invited me to join gmail so that I could participate in her little $5 date challenge and see the spreadsheet that is maintaining the progress of said challenge.

From what I can tell of this gmail business, I kinda like it. My new favorite feature is that it automatically updates you when you get new mail, none of this refreshing your screen nonsense! And it keeps all email replies, etc in the same document, so even if you reply 50 times (like Christine and I are headed for right now) it's only ever one email. It's kinda slick. They say I can import all my contacts, but that requires knowledge of Excel, of which I possess very little. Oh Jodi, help!....hotmail doesn't have a feature where it'll put your contacts into a spreadsheet, and it's not working very well to just cut and paste. So far that's my only complaint. But then I still haven't used it all that much. Mostly because I've only had it for 2 days and I think just 2 people have my new email address. So I'm trying to figure out if there's a way I can really test its usefulness without totally switching over everything. I'm getting tired of hotmail, but I'm still a little sentimental over my account there - it was my first non-school e-mail address and I've had it for almost 10 yrs now. but the junk mail is awful, and I keep getting messages that look like someone is hijacking my address to send out junk mail...dumb.

Gmail is the best! I've only known 1 person not to revel in its glory. One of the reasons it's better is because you can export and import contacts. . .unlike hotmail. You're out of luck with hotmail. You have to do it manually or nor at all. But, it's well, well worth it!

You don't have to manually import your contacts. You can export them from Hotmail. Gmail has a tutorial on how to do it. If that doesn't work for you... let me know.

I too have a Gmail account, but I like Hotmail better.
