good deed for the day

yesterday erica and i went running. Considering that the 10 mile race is just over a week away, it's a good thing, but considering that I've been working late and planning for small groups and getting that all ready, I've been tired, and generally not running much lately. Really good.

I was halfway to Erica's place when I was suddenly SUPER exhausted. It's a good thing we had already made the plans, because I could have stopped on the side of the road and taken a nap, I was so tired. But I made it. I crabbed at Erica about being tired and not wanting to run or move in general, but she had enough energy for both of us, bless her. She basically ignored by bad attitude (good move) and drove to our normal spot at the base of the steepest hill on the course, which is my least favorite section, of course.

I was stretching, Erica was jumping up and down to the drummers who were practicing on the grass in our little park area. She was in the street, joking about how she was bound to be in someone's way. That very second, someone actually pulled into the spot and honked lightly at her. We thought she was trying to clear the space so she could park, but then she waved us over instead.

Turns out she was from out of town, her cell phone didn't work in the area, she was looking for her nephew, and totally lost. She just wanted to know where the nearest petrol station was so she could find a washroom. So we directed her up to Franklin, and offered the use of a local cell phone. I don't know what the deal was, but it took something like 4 tries to actually get the call to stay connected. Turns out her nephew lives in Albertville, so she was a little out of her way. She got her directions, gave back the phone, confirmed the way to the gas station, and went along. As she drove off and we started to the path to begin our run, I noticed her license plate from Alberta. I figured she was not from the area, but that was a little unexpected! Hope she found her way alright...

My attitude did improve after that, we only ran like 3 miles, but it felt pretty good, except for being a little on the cool side for my poor lungs. But now I'll nowa little better what to expect at 7am on Oct. 1, so I guess that works out.
