small group is awesome

i wasn't so sure from our very first couple small group meetings, but i'm a little more convinced now.

Leading a women's group shouldn't be too hard, you'd think. Girls like to talk, they're fairly comfortable sharing with each other, have fun doing girly things, blah blah blah. How did I get so many quiet girls? They will speak when spoken to and respond honestly to questions posed, but it's been challenging to get those who don't know each other to converse for any length of time.

But last night was a little different. We gave them an assignment to come with a couple verses from the last 2 weeks of One Year Bible readings to share and discuss. It was sorta like extended required journal sharing time. And they all shared! They all had really good verses too, and insight into how those verses affected them. Even those without verses to share still shared something else that was quite relevant. There was joking around before and after, and we even got on a tangent at the beginning of group, and that was ok!

This isn't to say that group has been a graveyard for discussion. These girls are all quite easy to talk to, I've carried on conversations with all of them at one point or another, but getting them to talk all in one group has been a challenge I wasn't exactly expecting. I'm not the most outgoing person myself and thinking up topics to get others talking isn't my strong suit, so it's been interesting, to say the least.

So our retreat is next weekend and most everyone is coming. And I'm really excited! We'll play games and hang out and hopefully have a really good time. Hopefully it'll be exactly what we need to bring everyone together even more. I really like all of the women in our group and I'm excited for each of them to be there for different reasons, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that takes shape. I'm glad my husband thought this was a good idea for me to try, he's a pretty smart guy...
