i can see!

things were getting a little on the blurry side with my contacts, so i decided to see the eye doc last week. That, and I was running out of my disposable contacts, and needed to be seen before they'd let me order more. So I talked with the most thourough eye doctor I have ever seen who told me more than I ever need to know about astygmatism and all other things ocular. He did tell me that I am using outdated contacts, and there were new ones available, which was very intriguing. He gave me a pair to try for a week, and told me to sleep in them.

What?! Sleep in my contacts?

That has always been the cardinal sin of contact users because you deprive your eyes of much needed oxygen and they absolutely hate you for it and get diseased and fall out. Or something like that. I've always gotten away with napping in my 'tacts with only minor issues, but sleeping in them is a major no-no. But these new babies apparently let in so much oxygen that it's actually just as healthy to leave them in for 2 weeks straight, and maybe a little cleaner because you don't keep taking them out and putting them in and getting them all dirty.

So I tried it. And I liked it! Besides the fact that everything is once again sharp and clear (my prescription did change a little, one eye is a little worse than last year, and one is a little better - explain that one to me!). And besides waking up with the standard super dry eyes that don't want to open (they actually never want to open in the mornings) - I just drip a little bit of solution in my eyes and I'm good to go. It saves time in the mornings from having to fumble around and stick them in my eyes, and it's actually really fun not having to put my glasses on to see the alarm clock to tell how much longer I can get away with hitting the snooze button.

I would recommend this new technology to anyone who has contacts and hates them because they get too dry or it's a pain to keep putting them in and taking them out. Apparently these have only been available in the US for something like 4 months, so they really are brand new. Really, it's probably the closest I'll be getting to Lasik surgery for quite some time, so I'll take it.
