I like kg's post today. It made me think of things that have never occurred to me in my 26yrs of knowing and learning about heaven.
I guess I always figured that in heaven, you're perfect in the sense that you never goof up, you never make mistakes, everyone is well behaved and worshipful and reverent all the time. Not quite floating on clouds with harps, but not far from it. You could do whatever you wanted, but it would all be idyllic and serene. But really, what fun is that?
I think that impression takes away something of our humanity, and I don't know why God would create us to be one way, only to give us an overhaul when he brings us home with him. I know there's not supposed to be any sin in heaven, it can't survive in the presence of God, but that doesn't automatically restrict behavior to a certain set of "approved heavenly activities". If heaven is supposed to be like earth only a million times better, does that mean that you can have the fun of TPing someone's mansion and then the benefit of cleaning it all up with just a thought? Or maybe that you can learn to snowboard down the biggest mountain and even when you faceplant a thousand times you're not too sore to move the next day? Does being perfect in heaven mean that everyone is going to be able to pronounce "Rosenzweig" correctly on the first try?
Maybe it means what it does in the NT, when we're told to "be perfect as your Father is perfect." I always learned that perfect in that sense means mature, whole. Doesn't mean you never make another mistake, but you conduct yourself on a higher level of behavior. I could see someone pulling pranks in heaven, or maybe making mistakes learning a new language or something. I couldn't see someone throwing a temper tantrum.
Thanks kg, for getting my brain moving today, I needed it! I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm thinking about heaven a little differently now...
