obsession

remember that one time, back in july, when i was thinking about learning more about the band mae so i could figure out if i liked them or not? Oh, I checked them out, and I have to say I LOVE THEM. They've got a site where you can hear their music at purevolume.com, and so I went, and I really haven't left. [plug for purevolume - it's an awesome site where you can find all sorts of local and national acts and usually listen to a song or two, sometimes a whole CD, for free!]
I'm so glad that I like them, I haven't really been able to find a band to be excited about - though The Juliana Theory also put out a new album last month and it's marvelous, they've also got a purevolume site where you can listen to some of the new songs.

The only downside to this new enamorment (enamoration? am I just making up words here?) is that Mae is going to be playing at First Ave next week, and I can't go. There are a variety of reasons and it came down to a personal choice - I would rather have a CD that I can listen to all the time until I wear it out than see them just once and be left with the memory. It was a tough choice, but I'm sure I won't be too disappointed. And chances are, they'll be back. Good grief, Switchfoot put out a new album and came to the Quest 5 times in one year, I think. You'd swear they were campaigning for public office in a highly contested area. Or just bored.

So if you're looking for something other than your boring, bland modern rock that all sounds the same, you should listen to Mae and see what you think!
