thanks to kevin for giving his play-by-play of the speech last night, that was amusing, and pretty much how I saw everything (except for the bits about the Pistons game...)
I'll just say this. I was really annoyed at how the Reps and Dems were "battling" each other with the whole applause thing. Just in general, does one need to applaud every other sentence out of the President's mouth? Does every other burst of thunderous applause have to come with a standing ovation? Ugh. And then how clever was that rivalry between the 2 political parties? I swear it was choreographed or something. Stupid. Show some respect for the office of president and the idea of the State of the Union address, even if you think the guy giving it doesn't know what he's doing, or if you think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread and want to rub it in everyone's faces. I would expect that behavior in a Jr. High assembly, not from the venerated congressmen and senators of our legislative branch.
This is why I refuse to associate myself with either party.
And I'll end here - if Cindy Sheehan gets any more press for her antics, I swear those news reporters have too much time on their hands. She wasn't the only one who was ejected, so she can't claim she was being discriminated against, but heaven help us if she doesn't go thru on her promise to file a lawsuit for infringing on her 1st ammendment right to free speech. Think a little bit dear, you've got members of all 3 branches of government - including the President, VP, and the speaker of the house together in one room. Do you think it's a good idea to let people just randomly send out messages to anyone they feel like that might end up being signals to take some form of action? Simply from a security standpoint, the secret service would be fools to allow that.
The speech itself was so-so, a lot of the same stuff said, and a LOT of money promised to lots of different initiatives, and a promise to keep taxes low AND cut the deficit in half in 3 years....uh-huh....
Ok. I'm done now...
